Overview

FilenameFixer is a browser extension that fixes broken Unicode filenames (NFD to NFC conversion) when uploading files. Your privacy is our top priority.

Data Collection

FilenameFixer does NOT collect, transmit, or store any personal data.

• No files are uploaded to any server
• No filenames are sent to any server
• No browsing history is tracked
• No analytics or telemetry data is collected
• No cookies are set
• No third-party services are used

Local Processing

All filename conversion processing happens entirely within your browser using JavaScript's built-in String.prototype.normalize() method. Your files and their contents never leave your device.

Data Storage

FilenameFixer stores the following data locally in your browser using the Chrome Storage API:

• Settings (synced across devices via Chrome Sync):
  • Enabled/disabled state
  • Conversion direction preference (NFD→NFC or NFC→NFD)
  • Auto-convert toggle
  • Toast notification toggle
  • Site blacklist (domains where the extension is disabled)
• Statistics (stored locally only):
  • Total conversion count
  • Daily conversion counts (last 30 days)
  • Recent conversion log (last 20 entries: original filename, converted filename, domain, timestamp)

This data is stored only in your browser and is never transmitted to any external server.

Permissions

FilenameFixer requests the following Chrome permissions:

• storage: To save your settings and conversion statistics locally
• activeTab: To detect the current website's domain for the site blacklist feature

The extension uses the <all_urls> content script match pattern to inject the filename conversion logic on all websites. This is necessary to intercept file uploads on any site you visit.

Data Export and Deletion

• You can export all stored data as a JSON file from the Settings page
• You can clear conversion history from the Settings page
• You can reset all statistics from the Settings page
• Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data

Third-Party Services

FilenameFixer does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services.

Changes to This Policy

Any changes to this privacy policy will be reflected in the extension update notes and this document.
